Is it a protocol, chipset or something else? What do they work off, dedicated radio or standard 801.11?

Few pointers like that to grab the context, if you have a moment or two.

Have a couple of tuya bulbs, work off 802.11 and compatible with Echo.

They are usually wifi based but there are also Tuya Zigbee Hubs.

It's pretty much a cloud based service and app shared by many usually chinese manufacturers and is based on the MQTT protocol.

I guess the ZigBee hub exposes the ZigBee devices to Tuya cloud, so they can be addressed by using same API as the other devices.

Does it work offline (exp. sending Lan packets to the devices), or it always need connectivity to Tuya data centers?

Officially they always require connectivity to Tuya servers. They don't currently have a LAN mode like Sonoff.

But I use a third party Integration called TuyaLocal with Home Assistant that allows local control.
