    Hi

considering getting one of these to make life a bit easier for cutting sheets. Anyone have one? or the rip cut version ? Are they worth it? Not doing anything fancy with it just DIY stuff. Have a Makita circular saw to mount on it.

    Thanks

    Looks handy

For sheets, I've been clamping a 2 by 4 the width of the saw away, doesn't move and gives me the accuracy I need.

It seems to have been invented before cheap tracksaws became common.

Limited to 4ft and possibly problems with tear out and accuracy according to some online reviews.

Can you not find a budget track saw setup?

I was hoping not to have to buy another saw. Been using a straight edge as a guide but always having to allow for the distance to the blade is a pain and I'm not getting consistent cuts.

I saw reviews on line and apparently its the best thing since sliced bread but then every review on line these days seems to say the product is the best thing since slice bread

    Todays bread, today:D

The current saw is a sunk cost so maybe consider selling it and get a tracksaw.
    I have a hilti with a 3m, 2m and 1.2 m tracks for 20 years and they are magic.
big bucks at the time but i have got my moneys worth.

I suspect the kreg is over priced, I have some of their smaller stuff which is good
    ps
just looked at the pictures here
    https://www.caulfieldindustrial.com/p/kreg-kma2685-int-rip-cut-saw-guide/p-g14122?gclid=Cj0KCQiA0fr_BRDaARIsAABw4EurOGURrs3-DNsU5E1tD8ebIbWg3MS3xnf7FQStcTsfojC7_jQ9Z9YaAoXhEALw_wcB
they all seem to require the second hand to be holding the fence
Personally I like to have both hands on the saw as I know where they are
also you seem to lose a bit of depth.

Looking around the world wide interweb a reasonable track saw is north of 250 yoyos... the accut is 111.

    I don't do enough work to justify 2 saws ( 3 actually as I have a mitre saw!) .

Unless there is an Lidl version I can find in between the welders, compressors, plasma cutters and scuba gear in the middle isle!!

I'll mosey on with my straight edge a bit longer I think...

    Thanks all for the views.

They're too limited tbh. Seen a few YouTube carpenters with them and say the same thing. Too small and the use it very occasionally

Get a plunge track saw. More versatile.

Or Triton or similar are value.

Could always look out for a second hand one too for someone upgrading.

    Sell yours

The Lidl / Aldi ones fall down in terms of the track. They usually come in 2 halves that are joined, and the join just doesn’t work.

I think I remember reading about cross compatibility of tracks, but can’t remember where.

I think the Aldi one is a rebranded Steppach, and you can get those with a longer track..

    Steppach €295

    Aldi €80

    Longer (?) rail sold separately

Peter Millard has done track compatibility videos.

There's also this one about quality, which suggests that the second tier Titan/Macallister saws are less problematic.

    And the comparison

    Here's the Mac Allister with 2 X 700mm tracks for 120

    DYOR obviously.
