CoVid payment if I leave work

    Hi all,
My wife is working in childcare and was in the Covid payment before returning to work last June. But she’s currently suffering serious anxiety (prescribed lexipro recently) as she really doesn’t feel safe working in the current climate.
Can she leave work and be entitled to claim the Covid payment until it all calms down again? Some work colleagues have remained out of work by choice and continue to get the payment. She would be taking a pay cut as she is a manager. Any advice would be appreciated ... I told her to quit as her health is more important, but is she entitled to the Covid payment ?
    Thanks in advance

She will qualify for the Covid unemployment payment if your job or role has ceased or stopped as a result of Covid19. Simply choosing to stop working on a personal whim along won't qualify her for the payment. Indeed to do this may hurt or affect her employement record so please be careful here.

If she is at a significant medical risk of contracting Covid at work or if she has contracted Covid19 or has to self isolate on the instruction of a GP then she may qualify for the Enhanced Illness Benefit payment. However this will require her contacting a GP for the Social Welfare application form and medical certificates. Diagnosis or incapacitation with another medical illness/es will qualify her for regular Illness Benefit and it's regular terms and conditons. Once again, be careful here.

I would suspect that not all staff are required at present.

I'd simply ask the employer if I can be temporarily let go from the employment.

The employer may like this option.
