    ive 2 cars a honda accord 2011 2.2 d , and megane couple 151 110 bhp
ive been putting quartz 5w30 always into accord, runs like a dream. I wanted order oil online for both and both seem to be 5w30 ,c3 is recommended for the accord. Rang renault to ask which for renault they gave me castrol rn0720 which is neither c3 or c4, the castrol seems be a good oil should I buy this or go for the 5w30 c3 which matches the honda. Also I see alot of different oils online , the Bolk on mr auto and halfords also has some oils on sale too
https://www.halfords.ie/search?q=castrol+5w30, people seem to disagree on whether to buy brand oil or cheaper oil also, for a couple of euros extra i always felt it was worth it, especially in these sensitve diesel engines

    thanks for any feedback

Use Liqui Moly Oil Selector to decide your oil.
All you are looking for is:
    1. The viscosity (e.g. 5w/30)
    2. The spec/specs (e.g. VW504/507)
    ===========
Then armed with that, buy ANY oil that meets both 1 & 2.
Up to you if you prefer one brand over another. Some are more designed for economy like Shell Fully Synthetic ECT oils but can be more expensive.

Honda 2.2 Diesel require 0W-30 ACEA C2 or C3. This is now the recommended oil for the 2.2 diesel with or without a DPF.

The N22A1 ICTDI and N22B1/2 IDTEC were always recommended to use 0w-30 A5/B5 oil but after speaking with a Honda dealer they were recommended to use 5w30 C3 at a meeting in the UK organised by Honda UK.
The early ICTDI suffered from premature oil pump/cam chain wear and this was down to them using 0w-30 A5/B5 oil in the UK, more so than in Ireland.

    The I-DTEC don't have that issue running either 0w or 5w30 C3
I'm running 5w30 C3 in my current Mk8 and the Mk7 I had before and never had any issues.
Personally I think the 0w is more for Fuel Economy and the A5/B5 rating is again fuel economy biased, C3 has a better High Temp/High Shear rating and is more of a performance oil.

Fair enough. But the spec is what matters. Similar to BMW LL04 which covers DPF.
Older spec covers non DPF and can still be used on NON-DPF.

    Oil is a rabbit hole.

Meet the spec and you can ignore the 'this is a great brand' brigade...

Most failures are caused by the service intervals, not the oil.

Have a cdti Accord here with 520,000 kms, the engine never had a spanner on it, and is running perfectly, 0/30 Castrol edge is the only oil it has ever got, it's expensive but worth it.

What change intervals are you doing? 12500 miles as recommended by Honda or less?

Usually around 9_10 thousand miles, I buy 2 cans / 8 litres, and use 6 litres to change the oil, the other 2 litres are used to top up, when there gone, and it's low on the dipstick, I buy 2 more, and change again which is usually 9_10k miles, it has always used oil and doesn't seem to use any more as it gets older

That's the key...Castrol edge. The stuff on offer in halfords is magnetic and not the same. It meets the spec alright.

I stick with genuine oil and filters as well for one time where I went with magnetic. The car sounded louder with it so dropped it early and went back to edge/genuine
