I’ve googled the bejaysus out of this question and can’t get a straight answer, while most of our 4 legged friends go the other way across the Irish Sea, I’m looking at purchasing a horse over there and I can’t get straight answers anywhere on what’s involved with doing that, paperwork costs etc.

Anyone know or have a good source? Even the transporters seem to be a bit unclear

    Is vat payable?
    If so what’s the rate?
    Are customs duties payable?
Any special holding/quarantine now required as coming from a third country?

    Thanks

Weren't purebred sheep breeders in NI who had purchased stock in the Britain advised to resell them, as there was a 6 month period before they could get them?

eastie - link to Horse Racing Ireland and what is involved in the movement of equines to and from UK sales after Brexit. It may give you a idea of paperwork/statutory requirements.

Messy and complicated at the moment.

It's not just as easy as ringing a transporter and giving them a postcode.

Transport company going to have to liaise with defra and revenue and probably organise lots of the paperwork tbh..

It's going to be a costly just now..

Would have cost about 200 € in the good old days
    .
