    Hi.
Hope this is ok to post. Feel free to delete if not allowed.
I was offered a TCO contract ( minimum 8 weeks) late last year.
Of course, I accepted the job in good faith. I truly put my best efforts into my work, but every day felt like a constant losing battle, even despite being trained in for the work, the work changed on a regular basis, and felt it was too fast paced & I just couldnt keep up.
I was recently told that unfortunately my contract will not be renewed for another 8 weeks.
Even though I knew deep down that I wasnt coping well adjusting to the fast pace of the work, being told I was being dismissed has really hurt me. I tried and tried but I just felt it all so difficult.
    Anyone else able to relate?
Sorry for the long post. I guess I just needed to vent I suppose. Any advice on how to pick myself up?
    Thanks.

Were you dismissed or did your 8 week contract just come to an end? If your contract just came to an end I wouldn't worry about it. TCO contracts are often not renewed.

I was told this week that my contract was terminated. I finished my 8th week of work just before Xmas.

So you completed the 8 weeks before Christmas and the contract came to its natural conclusion? Or they extended your contract before Christmas and they decided to terminate the extended contract this week?

Sometimes a job just isn't for you.

Have a look at some other options - if you have any qualifications, look at those areas: if you don't, then consider getting something formal.

You need to find out what you're good at....

    BOL!

It's been 13 years since I was a TCO but i remember a massive amount of people were hired for the Xmas period on 8 week contracts and they weren't renewed after. It's commonplace for people to be hired for the Christmas rush. I wouldn't see what happened to you as a reflection on your work overall, happens to many TCO's

I was not advised before Christmas if my contract was going to be extended, my 8 weeks finished just before Christmas and went back to work this week as normal, to be told I was being let go. I would have thought if I wasnt being kept on I would have been told the week before Christmas or before it.

It sounds like your contract just came to its natural conclusion. There's a big difference between your contract ending and being dismissed. Don't take it personally. It happens all the time in the civil service, it's a bit or a revolving door for temporary staff.

I was told my contract was being 'terminated' and that I was being let go..

I would think that's just the terminology they used. You were recruited for 8 weeks and you did the 8 weeks. I wouldn't read the situation like you were sacked.

    You may have preferred this.

Others would prefer to have had Christmas and not to have been told until after it was over.

You were promised 8 weeks. You actually got a little more than that. So you cannot have been useless - or they would have let you go on the dot of 8 weeks.
