I have a Victorian fireplace but there is no damper in it?
I don't even know if damper is the right term but it's the thing that
is at the entrance to the flu what stops all the heat going out of the chimney.

As you can see, chimney totally open.

Does anybody know where I'd get one of these?

    TIA

If you’re trying to prevent heat escape then try a chimney balloon

HI, no, it's a used fire, jsut has nothing to regulate the fire/heat going out.
Not sure what it's called, I think its a damper

But you don't use that plate that closes off the chimney to regulate anything!

Imagine if it failed partway while you were asleep and filled the house with smoke. Those chimney closures are just for when the fire isn't in use.

There is next to nothing on an open fire other than the bottom air inlet that controls the heat.

If you want to regulate the fire get a proper stove.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Right, I didn't know that. I thought it was moved back and forth to control the
heat going out into the room Vs up and out into the night!

Any idea where I'd get one anyway? Be handy to not have a big gaping hole in the house all day
