How do you oppose planning permission?

How do you go about it?

A Builder wants to put up a multi storey apartment block that will be over looking my backgarden, blocking sun and light..

Whats the process to put in an objection, do I have to prove that it will be overlooking my house or blocking sun?

Is there a wording around that or is that even a thing one can do?

How you object is written on both the site notice and the newspaper notice.

The weight of your objection depends on how much effort you want to put into it.
Some people only do a one liner.
Other people pay professionals to prepare detailed objections

Also depends on if its relevant or not. For example, you may think its overlooking but if its a min distance away there maybe no consideration given to it. You have no right to light

You actually do have a right to light.... One enshrined in law under Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009

Usually these issues are examined during a planning application (even if no objection is made) and rights of light issues can be challenged in the courts even if permission is granted

You might want to change the last word to ‘view’. You certainly have a right to light as a smart ass neighbour of my parents found out to his cost.

My advice would be to talk to your neighbors and come together as a group to hire a planning consultant to make an objection on your behalf. Like a residents association or similar. This way the professional costs will be split making it more affordable and you should have a better objection submission.

The initial action is to lodge a complaint with the LA, costs 20 euro, because if you don't, you cant go to ABP

Get this in now, even if you upgrade it before the cut off time.
