Horse started swelling yesterday morning suspected cellulitis but no obvious cut or anything on right hind. Vet came administered antibiotic injection yesterday and today and on bute morning and evening meal. Swelling has moved down slowly but still quite large . Cold therapy and in hand walking regularly. Vet said she would need scan after tomorrow if swelling not gone down more. Just wondering would you not give it at least 5 days to see if the antibiotics works. Could it be fracture but horse seems to put weight etc on hoof. Anyone any experience of it. I'll ask the vet to give her more antibiotics than 3 days to see changes

Well either it is cellulitis and a full 5 days of antibiotics seem to be the usual cure, or it's not... impossible to answer (especially for me, not being a vet). This being said I read that it could be caused by a very small puncture, a gravel or anything under the foot too, not always obvious to spot.

It all depends on what trust you have on your vet, your own knowledge of your horse(s) and gut feelings.. Good luck anyway, keep us posted if you can!
