Due to covid 19 my boss has put me on a 3 1/2 day week working Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and 1/2 day Tuesdays - my wages will also decrease. Can I claim anything from the social welfare for the day and 1/2 that I am not working. Thanks for any advice.

I don't think so. If he would put you down to 3 days you could claim casual jobseekers benefit or allowance but as you are working 4 days you can't claim that. If you have kids you may be now eligible for working family payment (FIS)

Ask to be put onto 3 days. It will allow you claim social welfare.

Can't he just claim the covid wage subsidy and pay you the same amount?

Seen a number of people in your shoes op. Usually better off going onto the covid payment and sitting at home.

This country. Never miss a chance to **** the worker while rewarding those that don't eh?

He won't put me on Covid Payment as he wants me in the office to do the few little things that are coming in as he does not want to come in and do it himself. The small bit of work that is to be done could be done in an hour. We had thought in December things might change (for the better) in January but that is not going to be the case now.

I don't mind coming in as it keeps me in a routine but it is also frustrating sitting here trying to find work to do.

Yeah but if he can claim the 350 a week from the scheme to cover your hours, he could at least keep your pay the same.

In November he spoke of putting me on a 1 day week and advised me I could claim JobSeekers for the days i was not working. I checked this out with the Social Welfare Office and I the amount I would be getting was very little (compared to my current salary) and that person I spoke with advised I would be better off on the Covid payment and not working at all.

I would have thought it would make more sense to him to put me on the Covid Payment as then he will not have to fork out his own money to pay me.
