Hi, anybody got a ballpark idea of a day rate for a lad with 14 ton digger to flail, including diesel? Thanks!

I got quoted 1100 + VAT which I thought was high?

Don't forget the haulage. For just a day it will have to be factored in. Still priced a bit high, maybe he doesn't want this job

He called me, saying I'm in the area on another job this week, I can come to you now and save you the haulage.

Definitely sounds steep, I think I paid something like 700/day for a 25t and driver, excluding diesel. That was 2yrs ago tho.

Offer him 6 or 7 hundred. Throw the ball back in his court.

And he is still dear as hell.

70 and hour is top end rate.

Jaysus he’d want to be able to butter a slice of bread with the boom at that price. €50 an hour here.

And that would want to include a vat receipt. Only advantage of a larger digger is the boom length. However lots of contractor have mulchers on larger tractors now. They can go a fair height. Some can go to 25'+. Most would in or around 50/ hour and most would be vat registered.

    It was a cash price!

At 50-70 an hour would that be including diesel or not?

To correct my OP, it is a fairly heavy duty mulcher he's got, not a flail.

Not quite. North Wicklow which I'd expect to be a little pricier than more rural but not quite double!

High! Jesus wept, that's out of bounds altogether, this is for day rate right? not week rate?

    And you even considered it

Considered it, instinctively thought it seemed high, hence posting on here to check!

    Hang on a minute.....it's 1100 + VAT and it's a cash price.

    Something's not adding up OP.

That would be him using his own diesel ... I've never see a contractor using a farmers diesel ... too risky with modern engines and injectors!! To my knowledge it goes on in the UK abit I think!!

The first price I was given was 1100. I said I need an invoice, he said grand 1100 + VAT.

Hence why I said 1100 a day is more like 120 an hour!
