Selling Cattle N. Ireland

    Evening all,

I’m selling a few cattle and have a buyer interested from Northern Ireland.

This is a private sale and I’m wondering what’s involved in terms of paper work. I know it’s straight forward enough selling to farmers in the south and Agrifood speeds it all up but how does this work with NI.

Do I still need to get a certificate of CMMS compliance?

They need to be TB tested within 30 days - it maybe 40 but your Vet will let you know. They have to be "exported" through an approved livestock mart and will be removed from your herd electronically by the mart. Ballyjamesduff, Carnaross and Carrigallen would be the ones that would be local to us.

The seller can pay you direct either by bank draft or into your account or the mart may handle the transaction for you for a fee.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

So am I correct in understanding that for me to transfer the animals from my herd in ROI to the buyer herd in NI I will have to get a mart to do it?

In ROI we can do this all online ourselves through the Dept of Agriculture website.

You cannot do a normal compliance certificate for cattle been exported to NI. They have to be delivered to an approved mart for inspection by DAFM Vet. Only certain marts are approved export facilities and they only export certain days. You will have to book the cattle into the mart in advance.

It has to be done through a mart in NI or can I use a mart in ROI.

They must be done through a approved export mart in the ROI.

Can be through any export premises in south. Doesn’t have to be mart. Animal has to be in test , this lasts 30 days. You also need two tags in animal and your blue passport card. Once exported in south the animal is gone out of your herd there and then. Will be in north herd once north farner leaves the paperwork and blue passport card into permit office in north.

Department in south do all paperwork for you. We’re you based , how many you looking to export
