    Hey

We're getting virgin media 500mb installed in about 2 weeks. Just wondering what router they supply for this broadband and if it's generally a good router?
Also anyone have this BB package from virgin and how do you find it?

The router is the Hub 3 which is ok but I've always used my own router. You should get better WiFi coverage with a decent router but you may not need it depending on the size/layout of your home. The broadband is rock solid.

Thanks I was wondering as on the virgin media website it shows the 500mb BB with the same black hub that comes with the 1GB service

The router I have is the same as the one pictured for 250Mb on the website I think. They could well be supplying a different one now. I got mine in August.

So our broadband was installed today and we were given the black modem I wanted the white one but the installer only had the black. Should I ring virgin and get it swapped out for the white compal modem. The wifi signal is supposed to be better and have further range on the white.

For now speed is good. Only issue is we had the xbox hardwired to the old eir modem which was in the hallway and ethernet through the wall to the Xbox in the small living room. The new modem was installed in the large sitting room as it was less cable running from outside around the house. Now the Xbox is on the wifi the room its in was an extention with double brick wall and the wifi strength in that room isn't as strong as the rest of the home.

    Option 1
Get cat 5 cable run from modem back outside over gutter and back down in the the room with the Xbox and hardwire

    Option 2
Try the virgin media wifi extenders

    Option 3
Exchange the modem for the white and see if it improves.

    What should we do.

The White HUB3.0 is DOCSIS 3.0, you're on a 3.1 Service so need the newer unit.

You should probably buy Powerline Adapters ("Homeplugs") from Argos/similar and connect the Xbox that way. Both the Hub3 and Hub4 are total junk (theres a class action lawsuit over them stateside) but there's nothing you can do about that.

This is the first case of modem racism that I've come across...
