Waiting on renewed licence but NCT tomorrow

Renewed my old paper license there middle of last month and still waiting for it to be issued, so have no physical license right now.

I've my NCT tomorrow and assumed I'd be able to use my passport for ID but looks like this is no longer valid.

Any thoughts on what I should do?

I have receipt indicating I'm waiting for license and a valid passport. Will this be enough or would I be better sending my other half who has a valid license in my place?

Tried ringing NCT / NDLS for clarification but all closed on Saturdays.

Personally I would bring the receipt and if you have your old lisence bring that too.

They didn't hand my old license back to me last month, just the receipt so assume they require it to process the new one - especially since it's out of date.

Bring what you have and maybe they won't ask you for your licence.
If they do and you have no licence they will still test car, you just will have to come back for the disc later when you have the new licence.

Thanks all. The missus has been working nights the last few days and is finishing tomorrow early so don't want to burden her with having to drive up and stand in the cold with me so I'm hoping they'll let it fly.

All they require is ID from the person presenting the vehicle. You can bring anybody with you with a valid ID. You can even ask the person behind you at the NCT centre to "present" your car.

    edit :
basically what I'm saying is that it doesn't have to be the registered owner who presents the car.

edit again : a valid PSC card is also accepted

yep - just bring someone along that has a licence. Same happened to me last year

Given the current situation, I'd only be comfortable in bringing my other half and I think it'd be unfair on her after a few night shifts in a row. She'll be home from a 13 hour shift 2 hours before my NCT tomorrow.

If they'll still test the car and I've to go back for my disc (if it passes), so be it. Test centre is not too far out of my way.

Not too go on about it too much, but surely you have a friend or relative nearby who is free tomorrow. You can drive separately to the NCT centre and they just bring your VLC to the counter to present your car.
They don't have to wait after that. You can collect the Pass Cert when the car is ready.
If you really want to go it alone bring a household bill along with any photo ID. They may well just accept that.

I'd be very surprised if they even ask for i.d.

Definitely go anyway, as you say, worst case you will have to go back to pick up your cert.

I haven’t been asked for id at an NCT in ages

I'd imagine it's similar to the VLC situation.
Some NCT employees insist on it..... Others never ask for it.

It may be centre specific - the guys in one I test my car in always asked for ID and VLC.

And all posts about non close contact with people as if both in 1 car or are following in their own car.
Covid is going mental so think ahead please.

My centre ask if I have it then never look at it.
As a poster said think psc is fine if not sure just bring someone or go back to get it.

Don't have PSC for what it's worth.

    So update on this..

Was asked for license, told him I'm waiting for renewal. He asked if I had a renewal letter/receipt - made a note of my driver number in system I think. Said there's a lot of people in same boat.

Sorry to disappoint.. also, pun intended?

    Unfortunately not..

Advanced corrosion on brake lines and a few small bits - split tyre valve and indicator bulbs not "amber enough" ().

    Ah well!

Garage may stay closed if figure rise too high as most of our custom are elderly and companies working from home.
