    Hi All
Looking at this saw in Screwfix.
Any thoughts on the self sharpening aspect or is it a gimmick? Reviews seem positive
    Thanks

I'd say OK but personally I don't like the self sharpening chains. I haven't used one in like 40 years but nothing has changed in the design in that time.

Wake me up when it's all over.

It's really easy to sharpen a chain. Get the right sized file & the secret is to do it frequently when two or three strokes are enough. Don't wait until it's blunt.

    Probably only for small branches

Edging a saw with a file is done across the chain. Always wonder how the "self sharpening" works with chain running thru' the body of the saw. Anyone know how they achieve this or is it a different typr of chain?.

    Yes. It's this system.

I'd be wary of buying any tool that needs a four-part system for one of it's key features to work! Special chain, special bar, special sharpening stone, and a special "sharpening unit"

No thanks. I'll stick with my four regular chains that I can swap between machines and sharpen in the field with a hand-file, or back in the workshop with a grindstone.

I actually thought about that saw before Christmas. Only use my chainsaw infrequently now & always a pain to try to get it started. Electric sounds ok now for my needs. Didn't buy yet though.

Just wait for a Aldi/Lidl one. I know that spares are available for the Florabest saws.
