So I was trying to open the fuel cap of my ford focus MK2 2009 1.6 TDCi and couldn't get the cap open to pour in dipetane and it was fully stuck.

So I poked the fuel cap hard with the top of the bottle to push the fuel cap open or see even if could I get it open and the green bottle cap (it's tiny ) broke and fell into the fuel tank

Will it cause loads of damage or given the type of fuel tank etc nothing will happen ?

    God I hate myself

Unless its stuck in the filler tube I can't see it causing an issue.

For future ref there should be a little black plastic tube with the spare wheel. This is for opening the fuel flap when adding additives or refuelling from a can.

Yeah, if you have no issues filling up with diesel i'd say it'll be grand.

You are likely after damaging your fuel filler neck would be a good idea to make sure you can get a diesel nozzle in before you are left stuck.

Just checked and its half damaged
I got get the nozzle in BUT the handle of the nozzle won't stay pulled meaning diesel won't pour fully it
It keeps ''clicking'' so I've to hold the nozzle lightly, and the fuel takes ages to go in

Ffs, pissed off with myself now over something stupid

Going to try to get a mechanic next week because the initial issue is my car is going into limp mode after 3000 revs, I think some filter might be blocked

Since March and WFH it doesn't get any long spins

It’s only a case of pulling off the filler tube onto the tank it’s not a big issue to sort. And fords have a flap on the tank anyway so ya shouldn’t get diesel everywhere
