Is planning permission required for the removal of an internal pillar for a road entrance?

    Current layout:

Proposed layout with internal pillar and wall on right removed:

Yes, but if you accidently reverse into it you dont have to fix it

You don't need permission for that but you will need to maintain the structural integrity of the wall.

By removing the wall you'll be increasing the width of the opening quite substantially.
    That will likely require permission.

    OP
Suggest you submit your drawings to the councils Local roads engineer, clearly labelling the removals.

By My reading of your sketch you’ll need planning.

Suggest this will be rejected, but you’ll likely be able to agree a ‘middle ground’, hence you’re best to liaise with the council engineer before submitting formal application

    OP,
Why is it you want to increase the size of it, is it just a bit narrow for car access?

Approaching the Local Authority about agreeing something seems to be the best idea to avoid any issues with regularisation in the future should you want to sell.
