Learner permit - 3rd time renewal

    Hi Folks,

Question re renewal of learner permit.

Someone in my family has extended their learner permit twice. EDT was done two years ago and since then the person wasn't behind a wheel anymore (for varies reasons).
We had a look at his permit today and noticed that it was going to expire in early February 2021.
We went onto the NDLS website and saw that it is mandatory to book a driving test in order to renew the permit for another year.
He was lucky to be given a test appointment in the end of January.
Obviously there is no way that this person will pass the test.
His job is going to be moved to a location which is difficult to access by public transport in the summer so he is serious about getting the license this time around.
So appointment is booked and the renewed permit will be issued shortly.
Can you cancel the test right away or do you have turn up at the test centre and fail in order to keep the permit?

    Any experience/advice here.
    Btw it's not me as I am a motorhead...🏍

    Many thanks.

Tests are currently only being allowed for essential workers or those involved in the provision of essential services.

My daughter is in the same boat, we literally just booked her driving test and permit renewal, and her test date is before the end of the new lockdown.

But, I believe the test can be postponed and rescheduled twice, before you lose your money and have to reapply so your family member should be okay.
