    Hi everyone,

Would appreciate abit of help here.
My car has suddenly(within the last week) started making horrible loud creeking noises when im reversing.
Its an old car 08 toyota auris.
    have it a long time.
Sounds like its coming from the drivers side area around the wheel arch maybe.

It doesnt creek loud all the time but when it does it sounds like something is going to snap off.

Obviously the timing with this happening is abit annoying and im expecting it to be an expensive fix (it certainly sounds expensive :pac:)

    anyone had this before?
it happens sometimes and sometimes it doesnt happen, i have noticed that it is getting more frequent and its happening everytime when i reverse up a hill but only happens sometimes when I reverse.
the noise seems to get louder when im turning while reversing as well

I checked underneath the car and cant find anything loose but my knowledge of the mechanics of cars is very limited

Does it only happen when you reverse after the handbrake has been freshly released?

Toyotas are usualy good cars with no issues, can you check closely on the coil spring to make sure its not broken and starting to unwind which can be dangerous, chock wheel and jack it up to give you a better look.If ok lower to the ground and bounce wing up and down as could be drop link or ball joint noise.

It happened a few times after a drive then reversing into a parking spot.

But its only a small noise then and most people wouldnt bat an eye lid at it as it goes quick.

But yes generally after freshly releasing the handbrake whether it be from first start in the morning or coming back to the car from shopping.

If its the handbrake is it possible its slightly getting stuck on 1 disc brake?
I dont feel any stutter in the wheel or a locked wheel or anything.

I just got 2 coil springs replaced in my last service so I'd hope not.

Its a great car and very reliable, I've had it 5-6 years now and has never given me any trouble. So I'm not to bothered if its a cheap fix, but if its expensive I will probably start looking at an upgrade

On level ground pull handbrake up then release can you roll car easily,if not could be a brake caliper issue.

Does the colour of brake discs look different as a a dragging one goes red colour.

    Might need new brake pads.

Its really hard to explain to be honest.
I tried videoing it just to get the noise im trying to describe but of course everytime i go to video it, it doesn't make the noise.
See its not a grinding noise so I don't think its brake issues (at least I hope not)

Only got 2 in the front (brake pads and discs) replaced 4 months ago so I hope not.

Unfortunatly im just not great with cars so jacking it up and me having a look wont help as I wont know what im looking for:P

Im gonna leave it until the morning and video it, it always seems to happen in the mornings for what ever reason.

The noise sounds like something is going to snap rather then grind, but I could be wrong.

Cheers fellas il link the vid in the morning might help narrow it down.

No I had gearbox issues before, when the gears would get stuck and make a mad grinding noise.
This noise is definitly coming from the "wheel area" of the car.

Also I only got a new clutch put in 2 years ago and I'd like to think I don't ride it :pac: the clutch before lasted since car was built.

I'll have a look in the morning but i'd be very surprised haha

Sounds like metal pulling apart/ being stretched.

My bet's on broken/out of shape shim rubbing against brake disc.

My bet's on a mud flap or wheel arch catching a tyre on full lock into a parking space.

Could be a CV joint, a badly worn one will make a nasty metallic creaking noise that gets worse when turning. It could be that most of the time you are reversing, you are also turning. A CV joint noise would be quite cyclical.

It could also be something like a bad strut top mount, coil spring or shock but that would likely be a softer noise (more of a boinging or banging) and also would be less cyclical. It will also get worse when turning.

    I've attached the video lasts.
The sound doesn't seem that loud but it's quite loud and noticible.
It also makes a louder noise when I reverse while turning. Reversing straight doesn't seem to create the noise much so definitely something on the wheels.
Cheers for all the help lads.

Sounds like it's the back brakes getting a bit stuck when you apply the handbrake, breaks free when drive. Had a Corolla that done it, I just ignored it

That sounds like it's related to the front springs. Bring it back to where you got them fitted and ask them to take a look.

Il get it checked by a different mechanic first as that one is near my job and its a good outta the way for me.
I hope its not the springs as they were quite expensive to be honest 100quid each Inc labour

If it was front springs should have a warranty on the job.

Actually i just checked my invoice from my last service

done at the beginning of july.

the two rear coil springs were done.

i thought it was all 4
so maybe one of the front ones are worn badly? does that make sense. or its snapped or something as I think thats were the noise is coming from. the front drivers side

They dont wear they snap and when broken can be noisy and dangerous.

Could be snapped or close to been snapped then cause it sounds like metal is pulling apart to me.
