Mercedes master key

    Happy Christmas to you all.
Does anyone know what benefits a master key for a 1990s Mercedes confers, over and above what the flip out fob gives? I'm particularly referring to the W140, but I assume all contemporary Mercs were similar.
There's a procedure to disable the boot/trunk illumination lamps which involves inserting the key in the boot lock, but it doesn't seem to work with the flip out fob.
