Couriers companies marking as delivered but its not

As the title says ... has happened a number of times to me over the past couple of weeks. Is this something the courier companies are doing because of contracted times to deliver or something? Or is it just stuff is stuck in vans. Whatever the reason - it's making a confused delivery system even worse
