Van hire in Dublin over Christmas

    Hi,

I need to rent a van for 1 day over Christmas, possibly 28 or 29 Dec to move some gear from Wexford to Dublin, assuming intercounty travel will be allowed that is!

    Two questions:

    1. Any recommendations for van hire in West Dublin?

    2. One of the bigger items I need to move is a 5 burner BBQ. As I am not sure of the dimensions and really don't want to drive down only to discover that the van I have rented doesn't have the height, does anybody have an idea what size van I would need? I am thinking Medium Commercial Van (Opel Vivaro or similar)

    Thanks

Sign up for gocar now and get one of their cargo Vans.

I've used them lots, 6.50 for 30 mins or you can book for a day.

Govan would cost too much as they charge by the KM, you'd be looking at around 170 euro with Govan. I'd try murphy truck rentals they might be open

Thanks, I'll try Murphy but will be January now with latest travel restrictions.

Plugging details into GoCar website gives a cost of €97.50
That's using GoCargo and picking up at 09:00, dropping back at 17:00 and a 200km trip

Murphy charge for Ford Transit is as follows
    €89 for 24 hours
+ €30 for insurance (or transfer your own)
+ pay for the fuel you use

Vivaro would be fine for that BBQ easily done.

In terms of the convenience go car would probably be better though.

No fuel though and much easier to pickup drop off, no time restrictions

That price from GoCar includes the cost of fuel for 200km at 15c per km with the first 50km included in the upfront cost.
No additional charge for fuel, unless I exceed 200km.

Sorry I meant to quote doctorchopper, gocar was my suggestion!

    Hertz Vans in Dublin airport.

Should get a transit for about €100.

Good thing about them is the vans are always mint. I have used them a good few times and they are dead handy to deal with and can be booked online easy.

To close this out and provide an update for future users, I went with GoCar in the end and it was a total shambles.

The van was not present at the pick up location, I rang GoCar and was advised to get a taxi to the next nearest van location (approx 6km) for which I would be reimbursed.
Had to find a taxi, got to new pick up point to find the van behind an access controlled gate.
Spent approx 20 minutes freezing my ass off on the phone again to GoCar before the gate opened.
I was told half the cost of the booking would be reimbursed to me for all this hassle, as I had now lost approx 1-2 hours of my day.
The van itself had probably never been in close proximity to a vacuum cleaner, cigarette packs on the floor etc.

At the end of the day, I intended to drop the van back to my originally booked pick up point (2 minute walk from my house), so rang GoCar again to tell them I was doing this, whereupon I was told that if I did this a €50 charge would be applied.
I had to get my wife to drive behind me to the place where I picked the van up from, so she could give me a lift home, as it is remote and booking a taxi to pick me up from there would have been troublesome.
Again, rang GoCar to inform them that the van was returned to the pick up point as I didn't want to be charged an additional €50.

Just checked my bank a/c and they have charged me the additional €50 and have been kind enough to knock €15 off the overall cost due to the miserable service I received.

Just rang them and the girl on the phone will refund the €50 but I must put an email together regarding the fact that €15 from an overall booking cost €104 is nothing like the 'half' I was promised.

Won't be using them in the future.

    Thats annoying tbh.
They have the potential for a great service.
Did they refund the taxi money too ?
I nearly always go with enterprise when hiring a van.
80 including insurance is the cost .
Find them very good to deal with
