Looking at a car for sale that's still on UK plates

I'm looking at a car for sale on DD in Dublin that still has UK plates. Before I trek over there what complications could I be running into, given that the car has obviously been in the country for more than 30 days? I presume that if I buy it I'm going to have to deal with the DVLA to transfer ownership into my own name and get a new V5C before I can deal with Revenue here to pay VRT & NOx?

    And VAT?

The seller should give you the logbook, no need for change of ownerships. DVLA won’t send a new logbook to an Irish address anyway, and revenue don’t care who’s name is on the logbook.

If the seller doesn’t provide you with proof of entry into the state you will have to lie to revenue and get some bogus paperwork, (not suggesting you do that), or you will have to pay late penalties, vat and customs because you can’t prove it was here before the year ends.(Brexit)

The seller might have a ferry ticket or something. Getting the v5 is also extremely important as you can’t register the car without one

Also most UK plate cars being sold here were crashed in the UK so be wary of that and do a history check.

Why would VAT be liable on a 2nd hand car?

If it has under 6,000km milegae or it's less than 6 months since first registered.

After 1st of January you will likely have to pay customs duty and VAT whether it's new or second hand. NCT will require proof of payment of these before registering the car.
