I’m the self professed “cash for cars king”

I’m, well was responsible for the 75% of the illegal cash for cars sign posts that was erected in Dublin City from 2011-2018. I was eventually jailed for a month. I see from previous posts on here that a lot of people was clearly pissed off by the signage but if I can just say despite all your negative comments the demand was simply there for the service full stop. Any questions or queries go ahead

What sort of return on investment did you get on the signs? seemed to be an awful lot of them

I had a guy screen printing the signs (cheapest form of printing) at cost of €400 per 300 signs. The ROI varied but easily you could make up a decent wage

The signs were illegally posted on a commercial scale

Why exactly were you jailed? Was there a lot of stolen cars going through yours/your accomplices hands?
Do you feel car security in relation to theft has improved or changed in the last 10 years?

I was jailed under the littering act!

    0. The number of stolen cars. I was legitimately buying cars from the public and paying reasonably good price’s! You had too it was competitive!

I can honestly say I felt like and still do that I was providing a good service to people looking to dispose of their car for whatever reason

Cash for cars, yes there is a market but i wouldnt agree thst you would have to pay good prices - anyone in the situation of having to call a number on a dodgy sign to try and offload a car wont be expecting top dollar.
Surely the offers would be well below auction pricing.
Where would the cars be sold on to?

Hypothetically speaking if you were trading in your car and the dealer was allowing you 2k on a trade in towards a car we’ll say was listed at 5k, usually the dealer would raise the price of his car by at least 1k to 6k he would call this the “trade in price” so actually you’re getting allowed only 1k! were in actual fact a cash offer of 4.5 would secure the car in the first place! So basically by selling your car for a quick sale of €1500 you would be in a better position in terms of bargaining. Cash gives you leverage.

In terms of car auctions paying better price your probably right, but then there is the whole time , effort and hassle of it all. And after their ridiculously high fee ( upto20%) you’d be better of getting the quick cash. Less hassle!

The majority of cars would be resold for scrap, car parts or export! The odd good one that you might get would get a new Nct , valet and listed on DoneDeal for resale

Do you actually not see anything wrong with destroying the place with sh/tty stickers on road signs, lamp posts and everything in between?

Would you do it again if you knew the penalty was a month in jail? Which jail was it?

What was the business? Shipping the cars to poorer countries and selling there?

Where did you get your seed capital?

Were Enterprise Ireland helpful with advice and grants?

The councils should have been fining you 200 euro for each sign

How many fines did you get to end up in jail?

Im aware of dealer pricing and how that works. A private sale on donedeal is the solution for most. As i said, its a more desperate type of client who would need to deal with cash for cars.
It was rumoured at the time that these kind of businesses were making cash on cars that the owners didnt infact sell such as lifting cars that looked unused and delivering them straight to a dodgy scrap yard.
