Is it worth doing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) before starting as a trainee

    Hi all,

So, I'm doing the Fe1 exams atm and start at blackhall in Sept 2022. I have a training contract with one of the main corporate law firms in Dublin. I was just wondering whether it would be worth doing the CFA level 1 and 2 exams during the two years before I actually get into the office. I'm quite interested in law and finance (particularly structured finance and debt capital markets) and think that the exams would give me a better understanding of the quantitive and economic aspects of the transactions that I hopfully will be working on. I also think that it could help me better relate to clients as I'd have a better understanding of the world that they operate in. That said, the exams are quite a big time and financial commitment, 300 hours and 3,000 euros per exam. Would having the two exams be of any significance for career progression or future lateral opportunities? Is that something recruiters would look favourable on? Are the added quantative skills of any benefit or largely unnecesary as a lawyer?

    Thanks
