Wires criss crossing in attic

Hello everyone,

We are in the middle of converting our attic.

It just so happens that the fuse box is located near where we plan to put our stairs.

We discovered that the cables from the fuse box going to the various rooms are criss crossing all over the place and tangled up with eachother (picture attached).

Is it a big job to disconnect all the wires at the fuse box, untangle them and reconnect them again ?

It’s a bit of work alright, fuseboard can’t stay under stairs either , best to move it somewhere else and you might end up with cables ran elsewhere

Ok thanks. Do you think it might be a fire hazard the way the wires are crossing ?

It's not a fire hazard, no.

Jesus, what a mess, what ever is wrong with wiring being done in a neat and tidy way rather than the shortest route, it would only add on a few extra metres, hardly any extra cost.
Is it in electrical regs that fuseboxes cant be under stairs? why? if messes of wiring arent considered a fire hazard, why would a fusebox? otherwise every house would be bursting into flames starting at the fusebox (consumer unit).

Yes it's a reg.
Because they get hidden behind piles of ****e or coats him over them etc.

I see, well I guess if it can happen it will, I cant see how a consumer unit high up could have coats over it, but I suppose its possible.
Done right I can see how it would be better and ok to have teh consumer unit in some out of the way location similar to, but not under a stairs that isnt used for storage, in reality most homes dont have those spaces.

The reason why they can't go under a stairs is because if there is a fire your bunched . Is there steels going into the attic or are you just making storage space

If you're just flooring it for storage space either add new 4x2 at opposites to the existing joists and it will leave space for the cables. alternatively add 2x2s to the top of the existing joists and cut gaps for cables.

Get some 2x2 and cross batton the 2x4's and your sorted
