Anybody have a suggestion of a relatively cheap paint sprayer that can handle outdoor masonry paint as well as fence (probably water-based) paint? I am sure there are pro machines out there that cost an arm and a leg but I'm not a pro and will have limited use for the sprayer. Thanks

There is a free safety course here. I would strongly advise doing it before picking up a spray gun https://www.painttechtrainingacademy.co.uk/online-courses-new/

With regards to a sprayer, you will need an airless for exterior paint. My suggestion is hire one ( and take your time reading the safety instructions)

I have a Wagner W610 which is brilliant for painting fences. It no longer seems to be available though but the equivalent seems to be https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M6XZIZY/ref=dp_prsubs_2?th=1 and if anything it has more wattage, a bigger tank and can handle thicker paint.

I previously owned a ronseal fence sprayer which was absolute rubbish and kept spitting chunks of paint out. Comparing the 2 is like comparing night and day. The Wagner fine sprays and there was no need to water the paint down at all.

My 12 year old Nephew sprayed all my fences like a little pro and i'd say it took him a max of 10 minutes to do each fence with an excellent finish.

Have a look at the reviews yourself before deciding but I would highly recommend and it's on sale :)

Chunks can be related to the batch of paint you have tbh. Ideally you should use filters prior to pouring paint into any machine. But you can get lucky and have a clean tin/tub/can. It doesn't mean the machine is bad it means you were lucky on the next batch of paint.

I tried it with different paints on different occasions. It was honestly a piece of junk.

Still though , filters should be used. You'll clog up your Wagner without
