Whatever happened to Mike Williams, Dublin Deejay

I first came across Mike Williams back in 2004 during the first temporary license run for oldies station Premier FM. He was to present on all three runs. I learnt during that period that he had previously been involved with oldies oriented pirate ABC Dublin between the second half of the 1990s and the early 2000s. I think he was involved with Heartbeat during the '90s as well, assuming it's the same guy. Mike also turned up on at least the first temporary license run for Christmas FM in 2008, when it was more or less Dublin only. Two of the principals of Christmas FM were also behind Premier FM, and, indeed, all four principals of Christmas FM had presented on Premier FM. So, certainly for the first few years, there were quite a few Premier voices, like Mike Williams, to be heard on Christmas FM.

Whatever happened to Mike Williams? I have not heard anything about him since his time with Christmas FM. Except: I think it probably was the same Mike Williams that was involved with the temporary license run of Heartbeat on 2010 (mentioned on their website). While I think of it, was he involved with any other pirates previously?

If it’s the same guy as the Mike Williams I know of. Mike worked on radio Dublin and also played a big part with Dublins ABC in the 90s.
Currently he’s on Shannon side using his real name of Declan Traynor.
He’s been there a few years. I’m not sure if he has a full time show but he’s often on air.

Now that I know his real name, it is definitely the same guy! I found some more information about Declan Traynor on the website of Chelmar Radio, an online UK station that he presents on. Another pirate he was involved with was Liberty Radio back in the '80s. It mentions Choice FM - I don't know if that's the pirate connected to Hearbeat or the unrelated temporary licensed station of the same name. He also was with temporary licensed The 90s Network and online Christmas station Radio Snowflake. It also tells me that Declan is a cover presenter on Shannonside Northern Sound, as alluded to above.

    Yes, that's the same guy.

Lovely guy, was extremely friendly when I visited ABC while on a weekend break to Dublin in the mid 90s, and stayed in touch ever since.

Now that I live in a far flung corner of Westmeath Shannonside is one of the few stations I can receive clearly (I am sandwiched between two hills which block out all the Dublin stations) and I hear him now and then.

Steve, I remember hearing you on both ABC and Phantom around the same time in the early '00s!

I heard him voicing an ad that was airing on a local station recently! Nice to know he’s still about
