Hi I’m hoping someone can help me out with some advice please, we’ve paid nearly 9 thousand euro in medical expenses so far this year and have another bill of 9 thousand still to pay, if I pay the balance now can I claim my tax back on the 18 thousand in the new year or am I better off spreading it over 2 tax years as I’m not sure if there is a limit? Thanks in advance

The only limit is that you have tax paid to cover it
To claim on 18,000 you would need to have
    3,600 paid in tax

Ouch ok that might be a problem, so to claim for the 9,000 I would need to have paid 1,800 in tax?

I’ve just checked revenue online and I’ve only paid around 1,000 in tax this year so would I get all that back if I claimed on the 9,000 expenses?

just to be clear to get tax relief they need to be expenses which meet the Revenue criteria at

Cheers so if I hold off and pay the remaining 9,000 in the new year I’ll be ok to claim that back in 2022? Just want to make sure I’m not making a mess of this!

Definitely don’t pay until the new year and you can claim whatever is paid in 2022
