    Hi

Am looking at getting my Seiko SZSC004 Green Sumo serviced.

Crown feels a bit sticky, but hard to wind in.

Any suggestions who would be the best to do it?

    Cheers

Not sure about any local people, but I've used Richard Askham a good few times and he's done great work.

I brought one of Seikos to the Seiko Boutique in Dublin and they had it back to me in 2 days. It is a strange location, but they got things sorted and because it was within warranty they didn't charge a penny

I've read his blog many times, what is he like for pricing?

Movement and case service for time and date watches have been between 80-120 pounds for me, though I've only used him for vintage watches with varying degrees of work/complexity, so this might not be a good indicator. Chronos were more, with extra for any parts needed too obviously.

Quality of work was great though every time I used him and communication throughout the process is excellent.

You've just described my collection. :D Sounds very reasonable alright. What with this bloody brexit looming I'll wait a few months to see how things settle down with post and customs and the like.

+10000 for Richard Askham! Cannot recommend him enough. Lucky to have two watches pass through his hands, both came out fantastic along with a great write up on his blog to go with. Great to chat with, always updates on progress. Will be interesting to see how brexit goes,he will be in for a treat working on watches from your collection Wibbs :D

OP, worth noting that it's a relatively recent model so I wouldn't have thought it would need a movement service already? Might just be gunk built up around the crown/gasket in which case all it should need is a case service.

I am however completely speculating here.

Good point. Prob best to go local so.

Richard Askham is ace, I paid only a little more than mentioned for a sympathetic Bellmatic refurb.

Another excellent option in Ireland is https://www.nmwatches.co.uk/

I have two watches going to him in January (refurb and a mod).

Don't want to do a hijack here, but what do you guys do when sending relatively valuable watches for service?

I've never had a problem with registered post, but I'd be nervous with something more than a vintage Seiko.

Unthread the crown and then get a piece of dental floss, drag it back and forth so it goes along all the threads and this should sort it out. Works whenever I have a watch with trouble winding the crown back on it's threads.

I was thinking of something similar, will give it a go

So did the OP get someone to do the service for him? I have a Seiko 5 SNZF17K1 which is running a bit slow of late. Not a terribly expensive watch but one I'm fond of nonetheless. Had thought of getting another and swapping the movements but would prefer to keep it original if I can.
