Public Holiday Entitlements December

    Hi

Are there 3 Public Holidays in December, ie: 25th, 26th and 28th?

If so, if an employee works all 3 days they would get whatever Public Holiday incentive the company offers? eg: double time etc.

And employees who don't work those days, if entitled are eligible for 3 pro-rata PH entitlements?

    Thanks in advance.

The 25th and 26th are public holidays the 28th is not.
The citizens information page on this topic seems to answer all your questions link below.

  • Thanks:

    I was looking at this:

List of Holidays in Ireland in 2020
    Day Date Holiday Name
Monday Oct 26 October Bank Holiday
    Friday Dec 25 Christmas Day
Saturday Dec 26 St. Stephen's Day
Monday Dec 28 St. Stephen's Day

So an employee working on Dec 28, only gets pro-rata entitlement for 25th and 26th?

I'm trying to figure this out aswell,if you usually get double time for Sunday, bank holidays etc then would you be eligible if working on Monday 28th?

    Yeah, same as that.

I'm guessing there are only 2 Paid PH in December.

But I know that staff working on the Monday 28th will be looking for Double time, so if they've also worked on the 26th, which some have, they'll be looking for Double time as well. Maybe its an either or? ie: you cant have both, but you can have what pays best and single time for the lesser financially beneficial?

So I get either my pro-rata or the full pay/leave enhancements if working 25th.

If I also work both 26th and 28th I only get PH enhancement for one of those, and single time for the other?

Do you usually work on Saturdays? If you don't, they MAY choose to observe the holiday from the 26th on the 28th. Or they may choose some other day with the next month.

I'm doing the company payroll, so I have some staff working all 3 days.

I'm guessing in that situation (working 3 days) its whatever the 2 financially best that apply and one of those designated days is standard time?

Ask whatever HR consultancy your company usually gets this sort of advice from. Not randomers on boards!

Yes I'm doing that as well. Are you telling me off for checking on Boards in the meantime? Any rule broken?

Hey, I'm just a pleb like you: am in no place to be telling anyone off.

But it's kinda risky taking advice from unknown randoms who possibly know less than nothing, or tell you want they want to hear. Occasionally people post here, trying to get cheap-and-cheerful advice without thinking through the risks to their business.

Get your payroll wrong, have a disgruntled employee - and it could costs you a lot.
