VW Golf trim levels

    Hi all,

    I just had a question on the different VW Golf trim levels. I know in Ireland you generally have Trendline, Comfortline and Highline options. The UK then seems to have S, SE, SE Nav, Match.

    Can anyone tell me how these compare - for example, does the SE trim equate to a Comfortline in Ireland or is it closer to a Highline?

    Thanks

    You need to take into account the different packs too as they can make a big difference to the spec.

    I think the UK S model (around 2015 say) was a lot lower than we got here on a Trendline.

    VW are a bit weird here, Irish specs cars are generally better specced than the UK version, you would get climate on a Comfortline here, but UK cars only at the top of the range. People always go on about UK cars being better specced than Irish cars, I think VW are the exception.

    You cannot really directly compare Irish Golf specs with UK Golf specs. They are completely different, for example an Irish Trendline would have certain things that a UK S wouldn't and vice versa but the general rule is that Irish models were better speced over UK models from about 2015 onward.

    At a glance its:

    S = Trendline
    ?? = Comfortline
    SE = Match
    GT = Highline

    I think SE was from 2013-2014 and was then replaced by Match in 2015, I’m almost certain the only difference between the two is the wheel design. Comfortline is kind of in between S and Match, it has the upgraded seats but it doesn’t have radar cruise or multifunction steering wheel.

    There isn’t much of a difference between GT and Highline, the exterior of a GT looks better. But then later on the Highline started to look like a GT, and extra features were added such as dual zone climate. I think the only difference between S and Trendline is that some cars can have alloy wheels and some don’t, and some have gloss black bits around the steering wheel and others have regular plastic.

    It doesn’t help when dealers say its a car is Match spec when it’s actually an SE, or say its a ‘GT Highline’ etc.
