Garda Vetting and arrest of someone at same address?

My friend is due to be re-vetted for her job as a teacher - new legislation that Garda vetting is now every 3 years. However, 2 years ago, her then just 16 year old son was arrested for storing drugs in her house. The house was raided, her son admitted his guilt, and was arrested, he was, luckily, given a JLO, and has been a model teenager since. However, my friend is now worried about re-vetting for her teaching job, and is concerned that her son's arrest for drug possession at the family home address, will mean that her own name will be linked with her son's crime, and may affect her Garda vetting - is this a valid concern on her part as the son still lives at home/same address? If so, is there anything she can do about it?

tell the truth about it at the vetting.if she didn't know how can it be held against her?

Theres nothing for her to tell. The vetting process only asks people to disclose convictions or pending court proceedings against them personally.

She could have lived with the Manson family and shared a bathroom with Al Capone. The vetting form won’t ask, the process won’t check, and the outcome won’t tell.

    You’re friend will be grand.

It's unlikely to be an issue. She just has to fill out the form honestly.

Only relevant issues are brought up in vetting. The arrest of someone else at her home is unlikely to be relevant for child protection purposes.

In any case, if it is flagged, the super will write to her to give her an opportunity to respond to it before making any vetting decision. Her employer will never know.

Not the case. The application form is very clear. It asks nothing about any other person. The vetting process is based only on the individual concerned.

Thanks Seamus and Endaci. My friend asked a Garda in her local station about it - and that is what he said also, i.e. that the Garda vetting process is only concerned with whether she has a conviction or pending conviction, and not with anyone else at the address, but she is so upset about it all, that she thought maybe the Garda got it wrong, didn't really know about it. It's keeping her awake at night, and she has been through enough already. Hopefully all will be ok. By end Jan early Feb, the Garda Vetting procedure should be completed.
