Motor tax expiry question

So I have a bit of a quandary: I have bought my first car and noticed the motor tax expires this month. I am aware I need the logbook and insurance details to tax the vehicle and there might be a delay involved.

I'm just wondering in regards to the disk itself; there is a large printed 12-20 on the top and then in smaller text a specific date say 12-12-19. Which date does the tax disc expire at? The end of December, the start of December, or the day after the specific date , the 13th of December?

    Thanks.

Last day of December, always final day of month shown. Smaller text indicates when disc was purchased.

Thanks a mill. Gives me loads of time (hopefully) to renew.

Have a look on motortax.ie on the vehicle transaction page, will tell you when ownership went over to you. Most larger dealers do it online so it's almost instant.

yes, once it's in your name, you'll be able to generate a PIN and tax it
