    Evening all

I've got a Seamaster Aqua Terra (bought in 2003) which has been sitting in my top drawer for the last few years and I'm thinking of selling it. I've no real idea what its worth now (original cost 2350), any thoughts on what I should advertise it at?

    This is the watch

    Thanks!

Thanks 893, what does ‘full set’ mean in this context? I’m 95% sure I have the box and the receipt.

Box and papers. Receipt a bonus also!

    What’s the reference number?

2500 is the movement. 898 is reference to they type of end links.

I assume it’s this one. They are a very elegant yet sport watch.

    Yes, that’s it exactly.

Would it be sensible to get it serviced pre sale or sell as is?

For my sins it’s an Apple watch. I blame the onset of middle age and my attempts to get fit.

Apple watch on the right, proper watch on the left. Smart watches are a aweful intrusion into you life while real watches are art and joy.

I submitted the details on the watch to Chrono24 and they’ve come back with an offer of 2k. I’m tempted to take it, has anyone here sold a watch to them? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?

Looks that way, you send the details of the watch off incl photos and they revert within 3 days with an offer, you arrange for their courier to collect and they transfer the agreed amount after inspecting the watch

    Do you mean watchfinder?

Hard to see a 2k offer from them though.

No, Chrono24, it was from the appraisal screen if l remember correctly. l took a screenshot, l’ll post it up when l get home.

I think that’s a value estimator to help you price it right for sale. Don’t think they will buy?

Though it is a next logical step.

Yeah no, they reccomend a priced based on their average, you post the ad on Chrono and find a buyer, your ship and give a cut to chrono for the pleasure. Chrono dont actually buy watches tehmselves. For that service go to watchfinder, monacowatches or one of the many watchbuying sites.

I thinks that’s a strong offer also. How did you rate the condition? Our excellent is often only “fair” in the real world.

What’s the ref number from the paper work?

I suggest getting a quote from what finder also. It’s a similar process.

I’d be curious to see if they stand over the valuation once they get their hands on the watch and inspect it properly. They’ll probably tell you that there was some small scratches they couldn’t see in the photos and that having looked inside that it needs a service also.. our new offering is now “x” .. which will be a fair bit less than what was originally offered. I could be wrong but my spidey senses are tingling with that much of an offer from them. Sure you would probably get that sort of money as a cash offer locally I would say.

I emailed them yesterday with some questions including the point you made above. No response yet but let’s see what they say.

Not a bad price from a dealer IMO.
