Colourful tree suggestions

    I'm looking to get a "feature tree" of sorts as a gift. Specifically something colourful (ideally red/purple) for most of the year. It will be planted in a large garden and in a relatively exposed area with well drained soil.
    Liquidambar styraciflua / Sweetgum was suggested to me as an option. Just looking for any other suggestion or ideas more knowledgeable people may have?!
