Vivaro P0340 cam sensor

1.9 dCi vivaro 2009. Van won’t start but turns over. The above code keeps coming back even when cleared.

Have changed cam sensor, but no difference. Suspect stretched chain (/belt) and timing is off not letting it start.

Van was working fine with no indication of a problem. Just then refused to start the next day.

Anything else worth checking before I take it to a mechanic?

    Thanks

Check the crank sensor as well. Although fault is for cam sensor the crank sensor can give a camshaft code. Id be taking out the crank sensor and see if its covered in metal filings. The starter motor bearings can break up and cover the crank sensor in fillings stopping it from starting.

Also make sure the oil level is correct, Low oil level or service light not reset can give the same code.

Thing about Opels is the codes from generic readers don't always point you in the right direction.
