There are so many applicants for US visa that even when you have an offer for employment for H1B visa, there is still a high chance (50%) that you will not be selected due to the quantity of applicants.

Same with green card visa lottery. The amount of applicants is so staggering that you have 0.1 - 0.5% chance of winning depending on your nationality.

So much for no one wants to live there. They are standing in a queue in hordes...

Why do you think noone wants to live there? There are millions of legal and illegal immigrants there already for a start and hundreds of millions of people around the world in dire circumstances that would jump at the opportunity to live in a developed country.

Very common opinion here. Like when you send your children to school, they have to wear kevlar and run to get past the warzone as quickly as possible as we all know that there are gun owners shooting left and right everytime you go outside.

Is it? Doesn't stop heaps of people heading there every year.

Most people I know have been in the US at some point in their lives. Other than Spain or UK* I would think it is possibly the most popular destination for Irish people.

*France might be up there too

Only 175 visas issued to Irish nationals in 2019. Hardly 'everyone' wants to go there!

    Out of about 6-7,000 applicants.

About twenty-five million people apply annually for a programme that admits about fifty thousand.

It's not because of where they're applying from: it's where they are applying to. A place where a combination of talent and effort are rewarded more than anywhere else.

That's not an urban legend. It's actually true.

    Exactly
America will always attract people far more than other places.

An Irish person can work anywhere in the EU at the drop of a hat, and a lot of places in the EU speak good enough English for one to get a start at least (especially in professional jobs like IT and engineering).

But I'd wager most would head to Boston over Berlin if given the choice.

Maybe the people who apply for the lottery are not the same as those who dont like the US?

The statistics dont bear that out at all. American has a rigid class system.

A statement that has no basis in any reality.

Just get a job with a US MNC. Prove your worth and ask for a transfer. Sorted!

But just watch out for Donald Trump.

Tried living there. Didn't like it.

No one doubts people want to live there. Why though ..is the question....i think its the idea of jobs and opportunity.
