Saab 9-5 estate - what car next?

Have a 2006 Saab 9-5 Vector estate with (almost) all of the bells and whistles.
Love the practicality of it along with all the nice features. Heated leather seats, cruise control, HK sound system, electric mirrors, cabin is nice and quiet, etc. Probably the nicest car I've owned (doesn't say much I know).

It's getting a bit long in the tooth now and it's an absolute pig on fuel (though that's not too big a deal). I'm split between keeping it a while longer or getting something newer. Baby on the way, so something a bit more reliable would be nice.

Left me stranded twice recently, which turned out to be a crank position sensor that I replaced last week, and I feel like some new issue could be around the corner.

Any recommendations? Ideally the next car would be equally spacious and practical, with as much luxury as possible.

Looking for something 09+, under 7k, preferably petrol (I do about 5k miles a year). The cheaper the better - I'm a big bangernomics fan, but realistically I think I need to go up a few years, thinking of safety and reliability. A bit of performance would be nice too, but not a dealbreaker.

Closest thing I can think of at the moment is a Skoda Superb estate with the 170bhp 2.0 diesel, and all the nice options, but they don't pop up often. Maybe a Laguna, but that's probably not a huge upgrade. Doubt I can get a 5 series within budget that's not a complete shed?

Was looking at smaller alternatives like a skoda octavia or a golf, but they seem a bit more basic on the inside, even with options. Have another car in the household, so this one won't be the full time child transporter, but I like a big boot for chucking the bikes in the back and runs to B&Q.
