Hey, im getting new windows and doors installed. Meeting engineer tomorrow.
There is an old alarm on the house, wired to windows etc.
Will the installers just cut the wires or are they likely to want me to get an electrician to remove it first?
Ill get a new alarm system soon and was going to get the current one removed then. But ive realised theyre in the way now.

    Cheers

Our installers took the sensors off and put them back on the new windows with no problems but I don't know if that always happens.

Is the old alarm still working?

They'll probably just take them off but id recommend trying to take them off and protect them to use them again.

I got new windows while getting a rewire, electrician took down the alarm wires (although I think anyone could have done it as they're just attached by staples and a screw) I also planned on getting a new alarm system.

The alarm installer was able to use the old wires and just put on new sensors, saved us a few quid.

They are low voltage so no issue cutting them and pushing them back. You might consider if you want old and tired sensors on your shiny new windows. However, some alarm people would recommend the wired version over wireless sensors. We got rid of them.

Great thanks for the replies. So yes, the decision is whether we want to keep the wiring for a new alarm, or go with sensors and either snip the wires or remove them. I am leaning towards them snipping them, and when I get a new alarm put in I will get the electrician to remove what he can.
The alarm now doesnt work, and looks awful. Its from the mid 90's. The panel is on, but I have tried set the alarm off and I cant. It certainly isnt linked to anything. It also has ugly red buttons around the house which id like to remove.
Ill do some research into what alarms are out there, I have till the end of January.

Any thoughts more than welcome! cheers

New doors and windows will make the house more secure than the older ones that have been replaced. If you think there is a real possibility someone will interfere with the doors and windows to gain access, you should get door and window sensors either wired or wireless. If you think the visibility of a working exterior box will deter most people, you might just consider PIR sensors inside with the possibility of a damaged door or window before the alarm starts to sound. Consider any Veluxes as well.Really depends on the level of security you deem necessary and the area you live in.

You may need the code to disarm the tamper mode on the sensors.
