Anyone any experience of the c220 estate as a family car - back seat doesn't seem the roomiest but any practical experience of one?

I'll answer my own question :) Had a drive today, lovely car well kitted out. Back seat a bit narrow with child seats but fine for us.

What year? Don't discount the C350e if you do city driving.

I have a 2014 E Class 220 Saloon, and as far as the seating goes, no difference between the rear seats in either the Estate or the saloon. The estate has more available storage space at the rear, but thats it. Most estate cars are basically the same length, but the long roof line gives the appearance of the estate being a longer car. Absolutely lovely car to drive. I'm on my 2nd one, and the more I drive it the more I like it. Family driving jobs that previously I would try and avoid, now I welcome them, and thats saying something !! As an alternative I'd recommend a Skoda Superb....absolutely no shortage of either boot space ( massive) or interior space. If you decide to go the Skoda route, try and get the 2.0 ltr engine model .

I was all set to go with the superb but then this option came up and was too good to turn down. Boot space not quiet as big but I'll live with that!

I come from a Skoda "Family"..2 Superbs, two Octavias, one Roomster, so I'm a big Skoda fan...until I drove an E class about 3 and a half years ago, and as they say, the rest is history. Let us know how you get on.:o

For the sake of 30 mins, do the maths on the C350e.

Big VRT Saving, plus on a night rate it should cost about €2-2.50 per 100km electric.

Combined, they offset the difference between diesel and less efficient petrol potentially for a few years.

Unless of course you're getting a good deal on the diesel.

I was toying with the C350e estate, do you have one Kevin?

@caddy16, hope this is ok? I can start another thread if you want. (My 2cent... avoid diesel from now on)

Probably best to start a new thread, or find an existing one and I can reply there.

Just brought in a c350e Saturday myself if you have any questions. Main reason for me is the 7mile commute to work each way, chargers at work, boot for the dogs. 170 a year to tax a 2.0l turbo petrol with about 280bhp and less than 1500 to vrt it. Get a nighttrate meter and its 8c/kwH (Bord Gais )to charge it
Potential disadvantages are MB service costs, range of about 10 miles of battery in winter, maybe 15 in summer..

Apologies caddy16, best of luck with the new car, thanks danoriordan.

Mods, feel free to tidy up my mess, sorry.

Wife has one with 3 years nearly now. No issues with it at all so far ,very comfortable car, 7g auto is smooth, got the amg premium model so well specced with pan roof, heated and electric memory seats and tailgate, led lights, self parking etc, the interior is really nice.

It's 170bhp which is OK, the only thing is the 2.1 engine is a bit loud idling, the newer 2 litre is much better apparently

Too good a deal on diesel to turn down - will be going electric when changing 2nd car in 2 years.

Not trying to dampen any ones enthusiasm for Hybrids of any make or model, but it seems that all is not well in the hybrid world emission wise. While they still produce less emissions than pure Petrol / Diesel engines, they are not as green as the manufacturers claim. Personally, I would not be going for a hybrid in any case, but it's purely from a technical / mechanical view point. 100% Electric or 100% ICE, but never a mix. But like I said, it's my own personal opinion.

I'm not terribly happy with the sourcing or recycling of lithium, but I don't make the rules. I wait with baited breath for the government to change their tune. In the meantime, it comes down to cost and driving experience. Very hard to match hybrid pull off at the lights at a similar price point.

The mix of power is almost seamless these days, and that's with a proper gearbox, not a Toyota CVT.
