It's pretty much the same price on Amazon (you just missed out on Black Friday price which was 40% less), any reason you wouldn't get it there?

Edit: Never mind, they are not shipping it here so would need to factor in a Parcel Motel charge too.

Yeah. Amazon uk saying no shipping outside of uk.

But in regard to Tek Eir, are they ok?

Never heard of them before. I am guessing they are not consumer oriented though as headline prices are ex VAT.

    A few dumb questions

    1. If I was to get the fire stick from Amazon uk, will it work here in Ireland.
    2. If I get a fire stick 4K, will it work on my non 4K tv?
    3. As ye can tell, I do t know much about these things. Which is actually better. A fire stick 4K. Or a now tv stick?
    4. Will any of them allow me to simply watch RTÉ tv live?

    1. Partially, 3rd party apps like Netflix, Disney will but you cannot watch an Irish Prime Video account on it (only works with UK Prime)
    2. Yes but if you dont plan on upgrading to 4k in the near future then I would go for the normal Fire Stick or even the Lite one.
    3. Depends on what you want it for, Now stick has limited selection of apps but also offers the Now TV passes. There is no Now TV app for the Fire Stick
    4. Now TV does RTE Player (not sure about live RTE on it) but Fire Stick doesnt (at least not easily)

    THANK YOU.

so where is best to buy the Amazon stick - is it best to buy it from an Irish shop? Or would Amazon UK be ok?

I suppose the 4K is future proofing a bit.

Oh, I’m just confused I think, not sure whether to go Amazon fire or now tv.

I have an amazon prime account and an echo show 5 already so kinda in the Amazon bed at this time.

A 4K Firestick is streets ahead of a Now TV stick. I'd only use a Now TV stick if I was subscribed to them. I bought mine from Amazon and have no issues with it.

I would buy from Amazon using Parcel Motel or similar.

I would only buy the 4k to future proof if you will be upgrading in next year or two. Otherwise Amazon refresh the hardware every year or two and at the prices they charge (especially when on offer around Black Friday and periodically) I would just get the latest 4k stick at that time.

I prefer Fire TV overall but if you want Now TV for the Sports or other Sky content and only need the Neflix app and Irish players it might be a better option.

Another possibility might be the Roku stick, Now TV are essentially using a customised version of it with limited Apps, the "real" Roku's have most of the Now TV features plus more options.

Hi. Just wondering, Why would you choose buying from Amazon versus Curry’s or Argos etc?

Every couple of months Amazon tend to have an offer on their own devices so I would usually wait for one of those as price will be better.

    thanks.

I see amazon uk don't ship the firesticks this to an Irish address. I know yu can get around this with parcel motel etc.

Any particular reason for not shipping to Ireland?

Because of the limitations of use for Prime Video (which is a big focus of their device).

There was an international "basic" edition they did ship here that was older hardware and not 4K but looks like it is discontinued.

Tried to purchase a 4K Firestick from Curry's (ie) recently as they are shown on their website for €60, went to pick up and was told that they are out of stock and NOT expected in.

Went surfing and bought a 4K firestick from Currys UK shop on ebay for £30 and all in delivered with customs paid for €56. Just checked again and are still available.

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Never used NowTV so not sure of their offerings
    4. For FireStick you can sideload the RTE player (dunno if that has live content)

There’s finally an international version of the 4K stick now - beware as Amazon never discount the international version.
