Great shot of that bird in flight with the black background that makes its white stand out. Would be very interested in the technical information

Thank you for the comments. I process the raw file in Lightroom cropping and normal adjustments. I then transfer to Affinity Photo where I do a selection of the bird then invert the selection which selects the background. I then select an adjustment layer exposure and turn the exposure fully down resulting in a black background. I then export the resultant photo.
Actual camera settings are 1/1000 f6.3 ISO 800 500mm on a crop sensor Nikon D500 resulting in 750mm. I used a negative exposure compensation of -2/3 EV
I did the same process for POTW 546: 31/10/20 - 06/11/20 for the Heron.
I’m sure there's other ways of doing this but this is my way.

You are most welcome to the well deserved comment.

And Thank You very, very much for all the supplementary technical info. So very helpful. I too have only just started using Lightroom 5.71 that I had lain dormant for so long, as I was using ON1. Not a patch on Lightroom, specially with the Presets. Is that 500mm lens a Nikkor one? I can only afford a Tamron 150mm-600mm f/6.3, which is only sharp at the F8 stop, as anything above my current Canon 70-200 f/2.8 is beyond my pocket.

I use the Nikon 200 - 500mm f5.6 lens 90% of the time hand held. Quiet a heavy lens.

Thanks for that. Not too bad a price at £1200 for a Nikon Nikkor lens. It was originally what dissuaded me from going down the Nikon path, their expensive Nikkor lenses.

Yeah, my Tamron 150-600mm although I can use it hand-held, is also a heavy beast. Only use it on wildlife shoots in Kenya cradled on a beanbag. Otherwise, I usually add a 2x extender to the 70-200 f/2.8 and get 400 f/5.6.
