Transferring penalty points

Another driver in my car may have been caught by a speed van over the weekend. If so, as owner of the car I'd obviously get the points by mail.

Does anyone know the process in terms of transferring to the driver of the car at the time and the steps and backup documentation required?

The fpn will have a section asking if the registered keeper isn't the driver then to give the driver's details.

Just send it back to them with the name of the other driver filled in on the letter, there's a section on the letter for this. You don't need to provide documentation, it'll be re-issued to the new driver.

Thanks all. I would have thought they would require info such as insurance documentation to show the other driver was insured on the car, etc.

No.. the other driver could have been driving using their own insurance policy.. it's up to the driver to prove insurance.

The obligation of the owner is to know who was in control of the car, and to name that person.

They don't care once someone takes the points and pays the fine. I got caught years ago on my brother's bike and once I paid up they never asked if I was insured or my licence covered riding the bike, I was insured and my licence did allow me to ride the bike.
