Possible mileage discrepancy on history check

    Hi all,

I am looking at buying a UK registered 2015 Audi A4 from a dealership.

I have run a history check on the UK reg and the milage as per the National Mileage Register is coming up as 31,045 recorded by the manufacturer in May 2015, but 22,207, is this something I should worry about?

I also see a mileage entry was recorded by BVRLA which suggested the car may have been a rental/leased which is a red flag for me.

Appreciate any experience folks have had with the above.

    Thanks

So it has a mileage reading of 31k miles in 2015, and its being advertised with 22k miles now?

    Whats the uk reg?

There are at least hundreds of A4's for sale why persist with one you have any doubt at all about.

No sorry, the mileage is 90,000 miles now, but was recorded as 31 in 2017 but 22 in 2018 per the records. I am going to look at it next week so can quiz the dealer. Reg is SG65PHN

In 2018 it had 50020 miles on the MOT on 21/09/2018.

Thanks, not sure what is going on with the report then, (see image attached). I also note there is a 600 mile discrepancy in September 2019 but suspect this may have been an entry typo

MOT history mileage records look fine but it doesn’t include the one your talking about. Just bear in mind if the dealer gives you an explanation and you buy it when you try sell the car people will do a history check and see a mileage discrepancy warning and will walk away. They won’t listen to any excuses so if I was you I’d just find another car because even if it was a genuine mistake or theres an explanation to the mileage discrepancy it will always show up as having one even 10 years from now and will make the car very hard to sell

Thanks all. Food for thought, given what's been said I will most likely leave it, pity but plenty of other fish in the sea I guess..

Motorcheck report is clear, nmr entry is likely an input error....... most likely car was contact hire car driven by 1 business driver and fully & properly maintained and should have fsh

Full service history is available I believe.. just would be afraid the discrepancy could be an issue down the line when selling? Although I'd imagine FSH and matching MOT records etc should be sufficient for any future buyer?

How long do you plan to keep the car for?

Barring any unforeseen circumstances I'd expect a couple of years

A lot of people won’t even ask you about it, if they see a mileage error they will walk away. I was selling a clocked car a while ago (unknown to me it was clocked), I did a history check after a few weeks of it not selling and there had been 5 or 6 previous checks done recently and that was only with the specific company that I used for the history check

Maybe do an Irish history check and see if it still shows up on that?

That's my concern.. although maybe when I inspect the service history there might be evidence of the typo and could arrange for the NMR to be amended? I can't seem to run an Ireland only history check on the reg

I really don’t think its something that can be amended.

Sorry what I meant was go onto an Irish history check website and enter the uk reg and do a check there. Or is that what you did in the first place? My thinking is that the Irish history check might not be as detailed as doing one from a UK site.

I got my first one from HPI check, tried to do one on Cartell but it keeps sending me to the 3 star UK and Ireland search, maybe because it's not registered in Ireland yet?

Given the amount of them for sale just go for another one. It’s not worth the risk.
