Recommendations please for vpn router with large client capacity

Hi folks.
So my current house set up is virgin fibre in bridge mode cabled to an Asus Ac57u router. This provides me with decent signal and speed. At present I have about 27 connected devices.

I am thinking of a new router which would be capable of running an every growing list of smart devices and connections but also takes a VPN on board rather than on device.

Anyone recommend a router without breaking the bank.
