I changed my car in September but I still don't have my logbook (VLC) back, I need to tax my car but the Dublin office seems to be closed, as I don't have a PIN number so I can't do it online, has anybody else had this problem?

From the Motortax website FAQ, you can use the last 6 digits of your Chassis number to tax the vehicle. I believe this has been done by others before.

Here is a screenshot of the FAQ with the relevant instruction underlined:

Was that new car, used car from dealership, or a private sale?

In either case I would contact the seller as there are no delays in receiving log books, not that long anyway.

Did you put the car's reg into the motortax website to see what status the change of ownership is at? The problem might not be with the motortax office but rather the seller/dealer didn't notify them. For a dealer they can do the change of ownership online which happens overnight, for a private seller they post off the old logbook to Shannon with your details on the new owner section filled in.

That only works for taxing a car that hasn’t been taxed in Ireland before.

If the OP has a new car or one that’s just been imported then that’s how you do it.

otherwise you do a PIN retrieval using the facility online.

You should have the VLC by now.
Who sent the VLC in with the change of ownership details?

if it's a new car, he won't get the VLC until he taxes it of course.

I collected a used car today, it’s a UK import and I’m the first owner in Ireland, it was sold with no tax but when I go onto the tax website it says wait 24 hours as there is a change of ownership pending, bit crappy as I was excited to drive it over the weekend.

Nerobert try declare it off the road and then tax it on Tuesday or at the very least make sure you tax it before Tuesday

You will get a penalty and lose a month's tax if you wait till December 1st to tax. Got stung by that lately..

Yes, OP needs to confirm if they got a new car or a new (to them) car.

Radio silence from the OP since asking the question.
