Cover of external boiler constantly off

    Hi all,

I hope one or two of you can help me in this.

We had a viewing of a house, and just had the pre purchase survey done last week. During the viewing (over 3 weeks ago), and during the survey, the cover of the external oil fired boiler was off.

Apparently they had arranged a service at some point during these 3 weeks.

I know what you may say - the surveyor should have asked - but he didn't.

Do any of you have any clues as to why the cover may be off? Why would an owner of this oil fired central system may want the external cover to be off?

    Thank you all.

    Leaking combustion gasses.

Running with very little oil due to imminent sale and constantly running out and needing to bleed it.

Just try and have it looked at before purchase. As for the cost of YOUR tech to be taken off purchase price.
If all above board they should have no problem agreeing.

Thank you so much for your reply.

For the leaking gases, is a change of boiler the only way to sort this issue, or is there a possible other way?

I am thinking that we will need to get a plumber in definitely.

No not that serious. But mine is only a guess. It could be just carelessness or something else.

i am not an expert but would think replacing the boiler would cost in the region of 2.5K
modern condensing boilers are much more efficient and replacing the existing boiler will pay for itself
personally i would fret about the existing boiler.
