Washing car during winter time?

I am wondering is there a point of washing my car during winter time mostly raining, I wash it, get it nice and shinny and then after commuting to and from work, driving past big lorries on the motorway, then again it will be completely covered in dirt.

What sort of damage will it do to the car if I don't wash it throughout winter?

Another point is that car park at work is near a harbour, equals salt water, does that have any effect?

If I were you I'd get a good quality wax for the car it would help protect the paint. In regard to washing I tend not to bother if its constant raining every day. Sometimes if I've time when I get home ill hose off the heavy stuff, better than letting it get totally manky in wet weather. If there's a few dry days coming I wash it to get a bit of value out of it.
