Hey, son looking at getting a computer for Christmas or after, he's 14 and likes to play assassins cried, COD, farming simulator etc. No one here to build one and first computer here. So literally we have no clue. I've seen this one on Amazon and would like an opinion on it or if someone would be kind enough to give a recommendation of a prebuilt pc? Any advice would be more than welcome. He's moving up from an Xbox One thks

    Hold off on buying anything.
What's your budget and what sort of screen does he want to play on?
Assuming you have one already ofc, playing on a TV wont be optimal so will likely have to factor in the cost of a screen too.

Hi, thks for reply. He has a newish monitor already for Xbox and being gifted a keyboard and mouse, a mechanical one is it? Budget would be hopefully under a 1000,im just looking for something that won't need replacing and will be reliable I suppose as we aren't pc savvy thks. I could stretch more on the budget if required though

Will build a really decent machine for that, stick in the details of the monitor so the lads can spec you something to suit it too.

This is one I see mentioned here a lot - and excellent value for a Prebuilt- friend of mine got it delivered last week and has had no complaints at all!
    https://www.awd-it.co.uk/awd-mb520-argb-ryzen-7-2700x-nvidia-gtx-1660-super-16gb-ram-desktop-gaming-pc.html

Has a bit more balance than the Amazon one above.

Thanks for that. If I upgraded it to better higher options will that make it better and more future proof? 😁 like I said, complete novice here.. Thks

Here's an AWD-IT build line by line:

    https://www.awd-it.co.uk/awd-mb520-argb-ryzen-7-2700x-nvidia-gtx-1660-super-16gb-ram-desktop-gaming-pc.html?wgu=13527_54264_16062017846356_69090ae087&wgexpiry=1613977784&source=webgains&siteid=54264

Case: Phanteks P400 Air Black DRGB +£4.95 - If you prefer the look of the Coolermaster go for it and save a fiver.

Motherboard: MSI B450M Pro VDH Max - I would suggest the MSI B550M Bazooka but we're already over budget. MSI rather than ASUS as MSI have committed to updating the B450 Max series to support future upgrades. Not sure about ASUS.

Graphics Card: Asus 2060 Dual Mini OC 6GB + £119.95 - Drop this down to the 1660 Super (Not the 1660 OC) to come in under budget.

PSU (Power Supply): Corsair CV650 Bronze Rated + £19.95

CPU (Ryzen Processor): AMD Ryzen 3600 6 Core 3.9Ghz + £9.95 - suggest this over the 2700X as because of the monitor he has.

    DDR4 Memory: Corsair Vengence BLACK LPX 16GB (2x8GB) 3600Mhz + £14.95

CPU Cooling: AMD Ryzen Prism RGB Cooler +£9.95 - I used this cooler and it's quieter than the stock and has bling for a teenager.

Primary Hard Drive: ***Speacial Offer*** Intel 665P 1TB NVME M.2 SSD + £79.99

Choose your Operating System: None - it will come with Windows 10 just not activated you can buy a key off adverts for €7

Choose your Internet Security Package: None - knock this off it's ****e

Choose your Wifi: 1200Mbps Dual Band Internal Dual Antenna Wifi Card

    £930.63

Wow 😲. Thanks a lot. I'm presume this site is the best one to order from? I can take the budget to 1200 as he has been gifted by his aunt towards it. Anything you'd change to better it and will this last him a few years thks?

I'd personally upgrade to the B550M Bazooka motherboard to be on the safe side, but realistically there is no need to spend any more than that - it's already a killer machine.

I can't speak to AWD-IT personally having only ever ordered from them once, through Amazon I think. Other here seem to think they're okay.

The only other thing I'd say is the Ryzen 5 3600 has a newer version - the 5600X and AWD-IT have a machine based around the 5600X for only a little more, the problem is stock is impossible to get so it wouldn't be any good for this side of Xmas. I'm assuming it has to be this side of Xmas?

If not then this would be my pick: With the right upgrades its £1034.73

Honesty I really appreciate that and would love to your advice on that model. It doesn't have to be this side if Xmas at all as I had warned him because a friend had mentioned stock levels were non existent. If you think this one is better sn worth the wait I'd be happy to wait for it to come into stock, thks

Case: Coolermaster MB520 ARGB +£14.95 - No idea why the Phanteks isn't available on this model but the cooler master is fine.

Motherboard: Asus Prime B550M-A Wifi +£14.99 - No issues with update on this as it's a B550 (newer) board.

Graphics Card: Gigabyte RTX 2060 Dual Fan OC

PSU (Power Supply): Corsair CV650 Bronze Rated + £4.95

CPU (Ryzen Processor): AMD Ryzen 5600X 6 Core 4.6Ghz

Choose your Wifi: Not needed as it's on the motherboard.

    £1034.73

Really this is probably overkill but it's the most upto date processor. Bit of a beast of a machine actually.

Question for anyone that knows: Will that monitor support adaptive sync on an nVidia card?

Brilliant, I'll get in touch then and see when it mite be available to be built. I think I'll go with this as you say it's the latest processor etc, I really don't want to have to be updating it for a couple of years . Just wondered, my last experience was nearly 15 years ago with a pc, they'd take an age to load, will this load snappy? I'm presuming with all the bells and whistles now they will? Total novice as I said

That should boot up in less than 30 seconds - the drive is very fast and there's loads of memory. CPU is extremely fast. GPU - there is always a better one but the 2060 should be loads for that monitor.

Hey, I posted before Xmas and asked for advice on pc. This was the recommendation. I had the system ordered twice and cancelled due to lack of components etc.. I received an email today and they have this configuration in stock ATM and another model which seems similar enough. Would be grateful as to which one you think I should order. Hopefully it will actually go through this time. Thank got it wasn't a santy present.. All advice welcome, thks

Had a feeling, anyone any idea? Couple of hundred Euro do ye think? Anywhere in Ireland that would have something similar? And advice welcomed, thks

Been looking around and there's just no good options at the moment. I don't suppose you have someone in the North that would take delivery? Then the lockdown becomes and issue.

    VAT is 21%
    Customs is 12%

So the £874 (£1049inc UK VAT) PC would be £288 extra.

CustomPC are an option now with their ripoff prices :D

    Seriously dont use them.

I think the AWD ones would still work out better specced and cheaper than the Littlewoods ones IMO..

€1400 just seems astronomical for some of those parts (~£1300) ((the custom PC site mentioned above looks to be charging DOUBLE...~€3k...))

Sorry it's a frustrating position for all of us with this bloody Brexit changes!

Found this on Amazon. Vat etc paid at checkout would love opinion on it. I know it's probably not on a part with the one I wanted on AWD. It but I'm thinking Amazon might be reliable. Thks for any help and advice

Think there a few of the other cyberpower options that could work out closer to the 1k mark which would still be more than sufficient for all the young lads needs
    .

I checked OCUK, another popular site like Amazon which is registered for Irish VAT as far as I know, and they have 'PC builders' too -
